Where We Started

Our Humble Beginnings
Derrick began as a one-man operation, taking on kitchen and bath makeovers for family and friends while learning every trade firsthand. His first big break came with a contract to renovate homes in affordable-housing communities—an experience that revealed the power of construction to uplift entire neighborhoods. Within two years, he’d built a small team focused on apartment turns and full-unit rehabs, helping multifamily investors get quality rental units back on the market quickly. As demand grew, Derrick rebranded as Building Better Homes Management to reflect his expanding mission: delivering top-quality housing to the people who need it most.

Five years on, Derrick is now a licensed General Contractor known for trust, tenacity, and flawless execution. BBHM manages full rehabs on single-family homes and multifamily complexes, has broken ground on its first commercial projects, and is moving into new-build and custom home construction. Driven by a passion for community and continuous learning, Derrick and his team turn client visions into reality—on time and on budget.
